The UK employment market has experienced extraordinary change over the past 24 months. The Covid-19 pandemic saw 1 in 4 workers furloughed at some point between March 2020 to June 2021[1], with every UK sector affected in some way. Britain's exit from the EU has also had a significant impact on the UK workforce, with certain sectors particularly affected by the decrease in numbers of EU workers. As the economy begins to recover, the new, post-pandemic and post-Brexit world of work differs from the one we left behind.

We at inploi conducted a wide-ranging survey to uncover the attitudes and opinions of a diverse cross-section of UK workers, covering all ages, nationalities, and professional backgrounds. This survey focuses primarily on two key axes: firstly, what do people want from work? And secondly, what are people's experiences of the job search?

Our survey shows a world of work in flux. Workers' priorities are changing; whilst substantive considerations such as salary remain significant, workers are increasingly attentive to the culture and values of a workplace when making decisions about their future career. The way we look for work is changing, too; respondents to our survey were overwhelmingly receptive to the digitalisation of the recruitment process. This lends weight to a new reality that has been taking shape for some time now: if employers want to remain competitive with their talent attraction in the modern age, they need to go digital.
